As part of the work that I carry out at the University City London: Institute of Educations I co-direct the Critical Realism Reading Group. At times I have re-recorded presentation I have given for students, adding additional information, and spending a little more time in explanation. Once I have created the re-record, I then up load the videos to YouTube.

Education, Creativity, and The Philosophy of metaReality

This video is a personal recording of the second part of a planned presentation for the Institute of Eduction’s Critical Realism Reading Group. Due to the first part of my presentation on the six points of critical realism taking up all the allotted time there was no space for the second part, which was a continuation of an exploration of Roy Bhaskar’s philosophy of metaReality. This video offers the second part of the planned presentation and explores education and creativity as explicit actions in the move towards enlightenment.

“What I want to say is that the project of education , the project of enlightenment , and the project of universal self-realisation are the same, or all turn on a single matter, and this turns on eliminating the heteronomy, eliminating everything which is not essentially you.”

A Brief Introduction to The Philosophy of metaReality Part One

Roy Bhaskar’s philosophy of metaReality is perhaps the most controversial aspect of Bhaskar’s Critical Realism. It has been described as his spiritual turn.

With this in mind, I approached the presentation thinking about simplicity in complexity. I wanted to show that PMR is a development of Original Critical Realism and Dialectical Critical Realism, and as such, PMR can be seen as a logical development of Bhaskar’s project of the re-vindication of ontology.

This video is a retake on the presentation, I have added elements that the reading group felt needed more explanation and due to the length of the presentation I have split the recording into a number of Parts.

Part One deals with putting PMR in a contextual sweep with the other development of Critical Realism, before going on to explore non-duality and the under-labouring principles of PMR.

Basic Critical Realism

In this presentation I explore some of the dynamics of Basic Critical Realism. In the presentation I cover:

The Real – The Actual – The Empirical

Generative Mechanisms
Natural Necessity
Causal Power

Power1 and Power2

From time to time I am asked to deliver presentations around topic on Well-Being. This presentation given to a group of investment traders offers a view of Resilience that is influenced by Integral Theory and Critical Realism. The aim of the presentation is to explore a way of thinking about resilience and how one can access more resilience. The presentation explores the application of resilience as a life tool for wellbeing.
